Pear Shaped Body with Larger Hips, Thighs & Butt

If you have a pear shape body you may constantly be looking for flattering clothing to not only play up your upper body but also camouflage your lower half a bit. You may be a women who has tried every diet in the world, only to lose weight in her stomach, bust and arms and nothing in her butt, hips and thighs. It can be frustrating to dress a pear shaped body. But, don’t despair. Use these tips to help you find flattering clothing for your unique shape!

#1. Accentuate the Waist: Your Thinnest Body Asset

If you’ve had great weight loss in your upper body or were just born with a smaller upper half, one of the best ways to dress a pear shape body is to accentuate the waist. Use belts, scarves or other things to tie around the smallest part of your waist and create an illusion of a more proportioned body. This will allow the eye to be drawn to your smallest body area and make your upper half look a bit larger. While you rarely want to make your body look larger, this will make your butt, hips and thighs look smaller. Overall, you’ll look slimmer all over.

#2.Disguise Your Problem Areas: Butt, Hips and Thighs

Do you feel like your thighs just jiggle with fat? Chances are, you’re being way too hard on yourself. But, if you do think your lower half is full of problem areas you can always disguise them. This does not mean buying a mu-mu two sizes too big for your body so you can hide underneath it. Instead, it means finding clothes that skim and slim your lower half. Don’t wear pants or skirts that are too tight or that hug your lower half, as it will only add pounds to your visual shape. Instead, search for clothes which skim the lower half. Flair cut jeans or trousers are great options, as they will be more fitted for your waist but flair out at the hip and thigh area. A-line skirts are also great options, as they will accentuate your waist but give you more breathing room in the lower hip and thigh area.

#3. Colors Mean Everything: It Doesn’t Always Mean Black

If you want to flatter your pear shaped body, be sure to pay close attention to what colors you wear on your lower half. Obviously, the darker the color the more flattering it will be. But, this doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck wearing nothing but black. You can also opt for dark browns, plum, navy or gray. Be sure to stay far away from patterns on the lower half, as they will only draw attention to your problem areas.

#4. Style Yourself with Accessories to Your Pretty Face

One of the quickest style tricks to hiding your problem areas and flattering your best features is to use accessories to draw the eyes exactly where you want them to go. If you don’t want people to notice your lower half, make your upper half stick out more. This can mean adding a flashy necklace to your outfit or a pair of dangling earrings. Just stay away from any clothing or jewelry with the possibility to draw attention to your thighs, butt or hips if you’re a pear shaped lady.

#5. Dress Your Age: Some Styles are Simply a Don’t

Even though all of the girls in the neighborhood might be wearing skinny jeans and leggings, it’s important to avoid these trends at all costs. Gals with large legs or thighs must not fall victim to the skinny pant trend. Of course, typically the only females who look great in these trends are the super skinny women or teenage girls. So, be sure to dress your age and skip the teenager trends. That goes for mature women of any body type, though!
